Binge Drinker
Binge drinking is the new catch all term for the heavy duty, short term intoxication seen in cities all over the world and made iconic by regular newspaper images of drunken teens in town centres.
This is not the full story however, and binge drinking is a form of addiction all on its own. It is characteristic of those wishing to ‘drown their sorrows’ or maybe smother immediate anxiety with intoxication. It is a form of self medication often, paradoxically a medicine for the desperation caused by continual drinking.
Within medical circles, it is referred to as a period of one or more sessions of abnormally high levels of drinking taking place over a given period of time and to the detriment or neglect of usual responsibilities.
Standing up to a binge drinking problem is just as important as a chronic drinking problem, in fact there is no difference between them. Addiction manifests itself in many ways, including reckless binges. If your life has been inadvertently affected by your alcohol use, then we advise you to contact us.
